Dagestan and RusHydro Sign Agreement on Construction of Mogokhskaya HPP

On December 22, Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, and Viktor Khmarin, the Chairman of the Board - General Director of RusHydro, signed an agreement in Moscow on implementing the Mogokhskaya HPP construction project in the federal republic.

A new hydropower facility with a capacity of 49.8 MW is planned to be built on the Avar Koisu River. The hydroelectric plant is expected to generate an average of 176 million kWh of renewable, environmentally friendly electricity annually. At the same time, the project provides for construction according to the dam-derivation scheme.

Mogokhskaya HPP has already passed the competitive selection of investment projects for the construction of generating facilities operating based on renewable energy sources, with the conclusion of contracts for the provision of capacity, which ensures the payback of their construction. At present, the Institute "Lengidroproekt" is developing project documentation.

As part of the signed agreement, RusHydro also undertakes to carry out the preparatory measures necessary to create a reservoir for the new HPP. For its part, the region's government will ensure the timely allocation of land and create a special commission to accept the bed of the reservoir. In addition, according to Sergey Melikov, the executive authorities of Dagestan will assist in holding public hearings to assess the impact of the construction and operation of the HPP on the environment.

RusHydro is implementing the project as part of the program for the development of small hydropower in the North Caucasus Federal District, where there are the most favorable natural conditions for the operation of small hydropower plants.
