Large-scale military exercises conducted in the South of Russia

More than 10 thousand servicemen are deployed at more than 30 training grounds in the South of Russia, which is about a third of the number of subdivisions of all formations and military units of the Southern Military District. For the first time, the exercises are being held at new training grounds in Ingushetia and the Volgograd region.

More than ten thousand military motorised rifle formations of the Southern Military District marched to the areas of combined arms training grounds.

"In the field, about a third of all formations and military units of the Southern Military District will begin the winter training period for the new academic year," the district press service said.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the military is stationed at more than 30 combined-arms training grounds, on the basis of which autonomous field camps APL-500 are deployed. For the first time, training sessions are held at the new Nesterovsky training ground in Ingushetia and Danilovsky training ground in the Volgograd region.

Earlier, the Algerian and Russian military practised their skills in fighting terrorists at the first joint exercises at a training ground in North Ossetia, the Southern Military District reported.

During the training battles, the military practised skills to search, detect, and destroy illegal armed formations, explosive devices, conduct radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance in buildings and on the ground, the head of the press service of the Southern Military District Vadim Astafiev said.

About 80 servicemen of motorised rifle formations of the Southern Military District, as well as about 80 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Algeria, took part in the exercises, the representative of the district noted.
