The National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) reported the suppression of 29 terrorist attacks in the North Caucasus over the past three years.

The department announced the murder of 84 alleged militants and the detention of 379 accused of aiding members of the underground.

"A meeting of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee was held in Moscow. Issues of prevention of terrorism threats in the North Caucasus have been considered. Measures have been developed to improve anti-terrorist activities on the territory of the North Caucasus Federal District," the NAC stated.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian Guard reported the killing of 250 suspected militants in the North Caucasus in a five year period - from 2016 to 2021. The department announced the elimination of 29 training bases for illegal armed groups.

Despite the statements from the Russian leadership on the elimination of terrorism in the North Caucasus, shootings with the police and detentions of those accused of participation in one or another terrorist organisation are regularly held in the region. Often, defendants in such cases report unlawful persecution and torture.
