Chechnya retains first place in the growth of crime in Russia

The number of crimes in Chechnya in the first seven months of 2021 increased by 28.8%, which was the worst indicator in Russia. The top ten regions with the most unfavourable dynamics also included Ingushetia, Krasnodar Territory and Dagestan.

In January-July 2021, the number of crimes in Russia as a whole and in most federal districts decreased. Growth was noted only in three out of eight districts: North Caucasus and South (by 2.5% in both), as well as in the Far East (by 2%), follows from the report "The State of Crime in Russia in January-July 2021", published on August 20 on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The greatest increase in the number of crimes at the regional level remains in Chechnya, although the indicators there improved from May to July. In general, over seven months, the corresponding figure in Chechnya was 28.8%. In July, the growth was only 22%, but this is also the highest indicator in the country.

In third place in Russia is Ingushetia, where the increase in crime in January-July amounted to 19.7%. The top ten regions with the most unfavourable dynamics also included the Krasnodar Territory (10.7%) and Dagestan (9.3%).

The increase in crime for seven months was also recorded in the Astrakhan region and Adygea - 6.5% each in each of the regions. At the same time, according to data for July alone, Adygea took second place in Russia with an indicator of 16.3%. In Kalmykia, the increase in crime in January-July was 6.3%, in North Ossetia - 5.4%, in Kabardino-Balkaria - 4.8%.
