On 9 March, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan conducted a working visit to Brussels where he met with the President of the European Council Charles Michel, President of the European People’s Party (EPP) Donald Tusk and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

On 6 March, the press service of Armenia’s Defense Ministry reported that an Azerbaijani commando attempted a raid on one of its positions along Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan’s State Border Guard Service, whose troops protect that section of the border, denied the attempted incursion.

On 4 March, the 3-year EU Green Agriculture Initiative (EU - GAIA) assistance program totalling € 11.7 million was officially launched in Yerevan, reported arka.am. The European Union will allocate 9.7 million euros for the program and the Austrian Development Agency will provide 2 million euros.

Azerbaijan to expand its oil and gas supply to Europe

On 1 March, the director of the European Commission's energy division Klaus-Dieter Borchard said at a news conference in Baku that the EU was considering doubling natural gas purchases from Azerbaijan to 20 billion cubic metres (bcm) per year, on expectations of new potential gas fields in the ex-Soviet country in the Caspian Sea.

“Caucasus Watch” is seeking local specialists from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and the North Caucasus region, to assist our research endeavours and help enrich our content.

“Caucasus Watch” is an independent platform, which provides coverage of recent developments in various locations of the Caucasus region for the German and overall European stakeholders. We are an international team of Caucasus enthusiasts and are currently looking for local contributors who focus on social, economic, political and security dynamics of the said region.

The platform offers: I) a flexible format of cooperation, as well as competitive remuneration; II) access to English and German speaking readership in the wider European region; III) an opportunity to join the network of regional specialists through the initiatives and events to be organized by the Caucasus Watch and partner institutions.
