Head of Nakhchivan Resigns

On December 21, Vasif Talibov, the chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), resigned.

On December 21, the eighth session of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was held. The agenda of the session included consideration of the appeal of the Speaker of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The information stated that Azer Zeynalov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, said that Vasif Talibov, the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, requested that his appeal regarding his health be considered. With that, the draft decision on the dismissal of Vasif Talibov from the position of Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was brought to the attention of the session participants. The decision was adopted by vote.

Notably, two successive state institutions were abolished in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Instead, local administrations directly subordinated to Baku were established. One of them, the Nakhchivan State Security Service, was abolished earlier, and the President of the country issued an order to abolish the State Customs Committee of Nakhchivan.

From September 1991 to April 1994, Vasif Talibov worked as the Chief Assistant to the Speaker of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and, from April 1994 to December 1995, as the First Deputy of the Prime Minister of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for Foreign and Economic Relations. On April 8, 1995, he was elected chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic organization. He has served as the chairman of Nakhchivan's Supreme Assembly for the past 27 years, beginning in December 1995.

The President appointed a representative of Nakhchivan

On December 22, Ilham Aliyev received Fuad Najafli, the newly appointed representative of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and gave him some tasks, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani President reported.

It was stated at the reception that a large subsidy is allocated to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from the state budget every year. "President Ilham Aliyev instructed Fuad Najafli as an authorized representative to take care of people, fight against corruption, bribery, transparency, implement the right personnel policy, and work in close contact with the central executive authorities," the information said.

Fuad Najafli, born in 1975, is originally from Kolani village of Shahbuz district of Nakhchivan. He was a member of the Supervisory Board of "Sumgait Technology Park" LLC until his current appointment. Najafli previously worked in several companies that were part of "Pasha Holding."
