Georgian Economy Minister Visits Brussels

On November 10, Levan Davitashvili, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Economy Minister of Georgia, paid an official visit to Brussels.

Meeting with Commissioner Simson

According to the Ministry of Economy, during his meeting with Kadri Simson, the Commissioner for Energy, Minister Davitashvili addressed bringing Georgia's legislation in line with European standards.

According to the Ministry, Simson stressed the need to harmonize Georgian law with EU standards and noted: "One day, when our markets are integrated, it will be necessary that our laws are founded on the same values and principles."

"There are possible future initiatives, but cooperation between Georgia and the European Union has already been established," she stated.

Meeting with Olivér Várhelyi

Olivér Várhelyi, the Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, spoke with Minister Davitashvili on ways to advance investment initiatives in energy and digital connectivity between the EU and Georgia. He stressed how crucial it is for Georgia to keep up its reforms as it moves closer to joining the EU.

Meeting with Adina Vălean

During the discussion, Adina Vălean, the Commissioner for Transport, and Georgia's representatives discussed important areas of cooperation and Georgia's compliance with the Association Agreement's duties.

Commissioner Vălean reportedly expressed gratitude for what Georgia is doing to play a regional role in coordinating efforts to develop the Middle Corridor. This corridor is vital for the connectivity between Europe and Asia.

Minister Davitashvili remarked that Europe is seeking alternate sources of energy supply, alternative pathways for the European economy generally, and alternative links with Asia and key trading partners. According to the minister, Georgia can play the role of an important and dependable partner.
