On November 9, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reported that command-staff exercises on the security of strategic pipelines were held in Turkey.
According to the information, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia military participated in the "ETERNITY 2022" command-staff exercises. The exercise aimed to increase the mutual operational capability between the law enforcement officers and the military forces of Georgia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan. The Ministry informs that the Strategic Pipeline Protection Department employees participated in the computer and field components of the course. The employees of the Agile Offensive Division of those departments were also involved in the training. According to the information, the exercise scenario is based on implementing a peacekeeping operation, which consists in organizing the protection of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline in a crisis.
Notably, Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey trilateral trainings are held annually in all three countries on a rotating basis. The Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline is a 1,768 kilometers long crude oil pipeline from the Azeri–Chirag–Gunashli oil field in the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. It connects Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and Ceyhan, a port on the southeastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey, via Tbilisi.
