Special Forces of Azerbaijan Start Military Exercises on Iranian Border

On November 2, Azerbaijan started military exercises in the areas near its southern borders, the Press Office of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan reported.

According to the information, the training plan conducted by Hikmet Mirzayev, the Special Forces commander, the military units were raised with the alarm signal.

"After the special forces which left the permanent deployment points were moved to the operational regions, the commanders' reports were listened to, and the tasks were clarified. The units and divisions of the Air Force, Missile, and Artillery Troops involved in the training are concentrated in designated airfields and regions. According to the plan, in the next stages of the training, the special-purpose units will perform several tasks in interaction with the Air Force, as well as units of the Missile and Artillery Troops, which support them," the Ministry of Defense noted. Azerbaijani media reported that Turkish General Bakhtiyar Ersay observed the military exercises.

The military exercises of the Special Forces of Azerbaijan in the southern areas of the country bordering Iran occur two weeks after the military exercises of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the border with Azerbaijan. Thus, starting from October 17, the ground forces of IRGC conducted military exercises in the Araz region, located in the north of Iran's East Azerbaijan and Ardabil provinces.
