On August 2, the Press Office of the Armenian Government reported that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The interlocutors discussed several issues related to the implementation of the trilateral statements signed by the leaders of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan on November 9, 2020, January 11, and November 26, 2021. The parties agreed to continue contacts at different levels.
On the same day, the Press Office of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported that the Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a phone conversation with the Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov.
The interlocutors touched upon the implementation process of the agreements reached by the November 9, 2020, January 11, and November 26, 2021 trilateral statements. Ararat Mirzoyan and Sergey Lavrov also discussed the security situation in the region. During the telephone conversation, they exchanged views on the humanitarian issues resulting from the 44-day war. Both sides highlighted the release and repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and other detained persons in this context. The sides also discussed other regional and international agenda issues of mutual interest.
It should be noted that the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh has worsened in recent days. The de facto authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh accuse the Azerbaijani military of repeatedly violating the ceasefire. Russian peacekeepers confirmed three incidents at the cease-fire line on August 1.
On July 25, Caucasus Watch reported that Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State. The interlocutors discussed issues related to the Armenia-U.S. bilateral agenda, as well as the security and stability of the region. Issues related to the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace talks, the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, the opening of regional communications, the return of captives, and the clarification of the fate of missing persons became the subject of discussion. Secretary of State Blinken expressed the readiness of the US as an OSCE Minsk Group Co-chair to support the solutions to all the mentioned issues. Prime Minister Pashinyan reaffirmed his commitment to the peace agenda and emphasized that the Armenian public supports that course.
