Alan Gagloev makes a series of appointments

Alan Gagloev, the new de facto President of the separatist Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, has begun to replace old officers with new ones. The most recent appointment made by Alan Gagloev was Ilarion Gagiev as head of the administration of the Akhalgori region, which has a large ethnic Georgian population. Gagloev appointed Gagiev to the position by decree on July 19.

Importantly, in 2019, Gagiev attempted to run for parliament but was disqualified after it was discovered he was a Georgian citizen. Gagiev argued at the time that because he was not a Georgian citizen, the court was unable to provide proof of his citizenship, despite the fact that the de facto Supreme Court had ruled in favour of his removal.

In addition, Gagloev issued a second order relieving Andrei Zakharchenko of his responsibilities as chief of the state guard. On July 15, the de facto President of the separatist Tskhinvali region introduced Geno Kajaev as the new de facto Chief of the Tskhinvali Municipal Administration.

The de-facto leader of Tskhinvali also appointed Irina Dambegova as the new editor-in-chief of the state-run newspaper "Khurzarin", replacing Yuri Gabaraev.

Alexander Tuaev was reportedly appointed First Deputy Director of the KGB of the separatist Republic of South Ossetia on June 10.

Similarly, Gagloev appointed Valery Gazzaev, who has led the Department of Internal Security since 2015, as Director of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
