Jeyhun Bayramov: “I wouldn't say there is particular progress in negotiations regarding peace agreement with Armenia”

Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov has stated that there is no particular progress in the negotiations regarding the peace agreement with Armenia. "I wouldn't say that there is any particular progress in the negotiations regarding the peace agreement with Armenia, but there are certain messages, discussions are going on," the minister told.

According to him, there are still revanchist calls in Armenian society, but there are also different opinions. "However, we believe that certain changes have occurred in Armenian society in this context. In my opinion, everyone should understand that there is no alternative for sustainable peace and development in the region," added Bayramov. "The date of the commission's second meeting on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is not yet known. As a whole, the delimitation process will not be easy," Foreign Minister Jeyhun Foreign Minister said. "The date of the next meeting of the delimitation commission is not yet known," the minister told journalists.

According to him, it was possible to form the commission after a long and challenging process. "Armenia proposed to take de-escalation measures (at the border), to withdraw troops and border guards from the border. However, the Azerbaijani side did not agree with this because it is Azerbaijan's constitutional right and duty to protect its borders," Bayramov said.

The head of the Foreign Ministry emphasized that Azerbaijan favors carrying out the delimitation process civilly and examining historical and legal documents. "Of course, there may be disagreements, but the commission and its activities are necessary to reach a common denominator," he added. Bayramov stressed that delimitation is a long process. He thinks this process will not be easy, considering the past relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
