Garibashvili Meets with European Leaders at the Madrid NATO Summit 

On June 29 in Madrid, at the NATO Summit, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with international leaders, including European Council President Charles Michel, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, as well as U.S. legislators. 

Meeting with the President of the European Council

During the discussion with Charles Michel, Prime Minister Garibashvili underlined his government's commitment to work tirelessly to achieve all of the targets outlined by the European Commission in order for Georgia to gain EU candidate status. Following the meeting, Michel tweeted, "We promise continued assistance to Georgia to accelerate the process of pursuing much-needed reforms." 

Meeting with the French President and British Prime Minister

During the discussion with Macron, Georgia's possibilities for joining the EU as well as bilateral relations were discussed. The PM asked President Macron to visit Georgia and stated his willingness to further cooperation with France, according to Garibashvili’s Press Office. Additionally, the head of Georgia met with his British colleague, Boris Johnson, to talk about a strategic alliance and their strong bilateral relations. The Georgian Prime Minister tweeted that his country places a high value on the strategic cooperation that already exists between Georgia and the UK. This cooperation includes steadfast support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity; assistance in bolstering state institutions; and promotion of Georgia's democratic development.

Meeting with the Swedish Prime Minister

In order to address the European Council decision to award Georgia a European perspective and the good dynamics in the two countries' cooperation, the Prime Minister of Georgia met with Swedish PM Magdalena Andersson. Garibashvili also singled out Sweden as one of Georgia's key international donors, making a remarkable contribution to the country's democratic and institutional modernization and economic growth. 

Meeting with US Senators

A group of U.S. Senators and Congressmen, led by Senators Thom Tillis and Jeanne Shaheen, Chairwoman of the Europe Sub-Committee of the U.S. Senate's Foreign Relations Committee, met with Prime Minister Garibashvili. The meeting was also attended by Congressmen Dick Durbin, Chris Coons, Roy Blunt, Deb Fischer, Joni Ernst, and Gerry Connolly. According to a statement from the Georgian government, the strategic relationship, which is built on common values and interests, was the major topic of discussion at the meeting. The readiness of the two nations to further strengthen their close relationship was emphasised.
