Pashinyan on Baku’s refusal from negotiation, work of commission on delimitation, Armenian captives, and normalization process with Turkey

The online press conference of Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan took place on June 27. During the press conference organized for the representatives of mass media and non-governmental organizations, the Prime Minister answered dozens of questions.

Armenian Prime Minister said Azerbaijan is trying to legitimize a new war with Armenia. Therefore, Baku refuses to negotiate with Yerevan. Azerbaijan openly refuses to engage in dialogue with Armenia.

“Official Baku did not respond to the offer to hold a meeting between the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia and the Aide to the President of Azerbaijan,” he added.

According to Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijan refuses to sign a document on the construction of the railway. Russia proposed the project. Although Armenia has stated its readiness to sign the document, Baku refuses to do so.

“Azerbaijan is trying to keep Armenia under blockade. Baku is delaying the commission's work on delimitation and demarcation of borders. Yerevan has twice stated its readiness for talks in May. But no results had been obtained,” he added.

“The non-return of Armenian captives is aimed at undermining the activities of peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh,” the head of Armenia stated.

He flagged the normalization process with Turkey: “We are trying to take small steps to develop relations with Turkey. Our countries had signed some documents but did not implement the provisions. Because Turkey has always put forward the Nagorno-Karabakh issue as a condition for normalizing relations with Armenia.”
