Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has pledged "zero tolerance" for any criminal conduct during the pro-European march organised by the "Shame Movement" on June 20. The Prime Minister warned everyone not to yield to this provocation, as the government will not accept any criminal conduct. He emphasised that the government will use its legal rights and power to safeguard the peace and stability of the nation's citizenry.
Reiterating a current party theme, the prime minister stated that the next march is being organised by the same people who failed to lure the nation into the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He also referred to the organisers as "the force that was murdering, robbing, torturing, and treacherously handing Georgia's territories over to the occupying country," reiterating the litany of accusations made by the Georgian Dream against its predecessor, the United National Movement, and imprisoned ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.
The event has been planned in anticipation of the European Union's response to Georgia's candidate status, with the first gathering scheduled for June 20 at 20:00 in front of the Parliament building to demonstrate the commitment of the global Georgian population to European choice and Western values. Representatives of civil society, the Ukrainian government, and the European Union are expected to speak at the gathering, which will then march symbolically to Europe Square in old Tbilisi.
