Hikmet Hajiyev met with Jake Sullivan in U.S.

On June 6, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, met with Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor to the US President, in Washington.

Hikmet Hajiyev wrote about this on his Twitter account: "I had a fruitful and cordial conversation today [on June 6] at the White House with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Azerbaijan-US partnership and regional issues."

The White House said the meeting welcomed the 30th anniversary of US-Azerbaijani relations. The two sides expressed readiness to deepen bilateral ties further. "The meeting discussed joint commitments to help the Ukrainian people in response to Russia's unfounded aggression," the message reads.

Sullivan praised Azerbaijan's long-term commitment to Europe's energy security and discussed efforts to diversify regional energy supplies further. Both sides shared their perspectives on the impact of the conflict in Ukraine on the broader region. US National Security Adviser expressed the United States' commitment to peace, security, and prosperity in the South Caucasus.

Jake Sullivan praised the important and historic diplomatic efforts to achieve lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Sullivan also expressed support for the talks hosted by Council of Europe President Charles Michel. He flagged the United States, as co-chair of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, was ready to work closely and support progress through various means.

Moreover, Aide to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev, who is on a visit to the United States, will meet with Karen Donfried, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. The meeting will be held at the US State Department and closed to the press.
