The protesters announced their accusations against US Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy in front of the Marriott Hotel, where a forum on the topic “Armenian democracy” was being held.
“The US Ambassador to Armenia travelled to Baku, where he meets with Aliyev, after which she returns and gives us lessons in democracy but tolerates a government that gives the territories of a democratic country to authoritarian Azerbaijan,” demonstrators said. “The ambassador meets with people who live luxurious lives, accuse others of stealing and violate the rights of Armenians,” they added. Under the guise of protecting human rights, the authorities have violated almost all articles of the European Convention on Human Rights for 4 years, according to them.
“The right to a fair trial has been violated in Armenia. You instruct to block the courts and Parliament. But when your Congress was blocked, you immediately recorded a violation of democracy. Is our Parliament less democratic? You are not defenders of democracy; you are defenders of the Turkish-Azerbaijani perpetrators of genocide. US fails to recognise the genocide of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas. For disrespectful attitude, the US Ambassador should be recalled. Hypocritical human rights defenders must leave a truly democratic Armenia that respects human rights,” protesters stated.
Moreover, Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) demanded the recall of US Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy.
The head of the American diplomatic mission in Yerevan, in an interview said that the United States seeks to “help the Armenian people build a future that is based on common democratic values and the path that the Armenian people chose in 2018, and reaffirmed in 2021 during the (early) parliamentary elections.”
“This is a very sad statement, double standards. There are practically no Western or European structures or embassies that would really support democracy or human rights in Armenia,” Sharmazanov stated in an interview with journalists during the opposition rally.
