Zelenskyy gives condition for the return of the ambassador to Tbilisi

Kyiv will return its ambassador to Tbilisi after the Georgian authorities demonstrate support for Ukraine. Now "the position of the leaders of the Georgian state is not clear," President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

“We definitely do not want conflicts with Georgia. I am sure that this will never happen. We will definitely return the ambassador to friendly Georgia as soon as we feel support from your government,” he said.

According to Zelenskyy, he considers the Georgian people "fraternal", but has claims against the Georgian government. “Now I really do not understand the position of the leaders of your state. I don’t understand, that’s why I perceive it so painfully. I think that one of the closest nations to Ukraine, to the Ukrainian people is the Georgian people, since the first revolution, we have seen such great support. Now I really don’t understand the position of the leaders of your state,” Zelenskyy said. He does not understand why Tbilisi is "not accepting sanctions".

“I have heard messages that we must protect our economy. What economy? Part of the territory of Georgia has already been taken away. The Russians have almost reached Tbilisi. What economy? All this is not worth it, I think," Zelenskyy said.

There is no other country where Ukrainians are treated as well as in Georgia, Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze told reporters, commenting on the recall of the Ukrainian ambassador from Tbilisi. “The recall of the Ambassador of Ukraine, in my opinion, was a mistake. The sooner we forget about some of our grievances, the faster our countries will develop, and peace will come,” Burchuladze said. The Minister also noted that the Ukrainian claim that Georgia does not join the anti-Russian sanctions are inherently incorrect.

“Georgia has joined all the critical sanctions, whether they are UN sanctions, sanctions from the Council of Europe or others. If some sanctions will have no effect on the aggressor, and only lead to suffering among our population, then, of course, it is unreasonable to join them,” the head of the Ministry of Defence said.
