Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, will lead a congressional delegation to Georgia.

Senators Gary Peters (D-MI), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, and Bob Casey (D-PA) will lead the delegation, which will also include Representatives Stephanie Murphy (D-FL), Kathleen Rice (D-NY), David Cicilline (D-RI), and Ted Deutch (D-FL).

The legislators will meet with Georgian top government officials and civil society leaders "to discuss the importance of sustaining and strengthening the trans-Atlantic alliance, maintaining a forceful response against Russia's war against Ukraine, and bolstering European security," according to a press release issued by the US Embassy in Tbilisi.

Senator Coons stated that the visit takes place at a "vital juncture on the continent and for the trans-Atlantic relationship."

"The Russian government's aggressiveness against Ukraine has only highlighted the need to further enhance our tight connection with our European friends," Senator Peters stated. "In reacting to Vladimir Putin and backing the Ukrainian military and people, the trans-Atlantic alliance has been unwavering and in lockstep," he said. "I am looking forward to meeting with our European friends and allies to build on our collaborative efforts and continue to protect our shared democratic principles," he added.
