Senior NATO Intelligence Official paid visit Tbilisi

David Cattler, NATO's Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security, met with Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze and State Security Service Head Grigol Liluashvili in Tbilisi.

According to the Georgian Defence Ministry, the NATO official and Minister Burchuladze addressed global security problems, actual dangers, and the impact of Russia's conflict against Ukraine on the regional security situation.

According to the Defence Ministry, the two focused on hybrid issues and misinformation, as well as related responses and potential hazards.

On the same day, a NATO official and the head of Georgia's internal intelligence agency addressed the conflict in Ukraine as well as the situation in Russian-occupied Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The Georgian official informed NATO's Cattler on "present risks and problems in the area," according to the State Security Service.

Earlier, President Salome Zourabichvili chastised the opposition for portraying Georgia as "having selected fear over dignity, as if we are not worthy of either entering the European Union or collaborating with NATO and the US."

Also, Polish President Andrzej Duda recommended that NATO arrange discussions with the leaders of Georgia and Ukraine during the Alliance's Madrid Summit in June 2022.

President Duda made the declaration after meeting NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, emphasising that conversations with Presidents Salome Zourabichvili and Volodymyr Zelenskyy will show support to the two nations and that NATO is not abandoning them.

Moreover, recently NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, "the Kremlin is attempting to make NATO and the EU provide less assistance for our allies."

"Our collective response must be stronger assistance for nations like Georgia, Moldova, and Bosnia and Herzegovina," the NATO leader stated.

"To assist them in achieving democratic changes and pursuing paths that they choose freely," Stoltenberg stated.

On October 18, 2021, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin began his visit to Europe this week in Georgia.

"The United States is committed to helping Georgia strengthen its defences and promote Euro-Atlantic integration, and I look forward to meeting here," Austin tweeted.

During his visit to Georgia, the head of the Pentagon will meet with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze.
