Recent developments in Azerbaijan’s gas export

Azerbaijan increases gas transit by 12.95%

According to the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry, Azerbaijan boosted gas transportation by 12.9% in January 2022.

Around 2 billion cubic metres of gas were sold abroad. Turkey received 0.8 billion cubic metres, Europe received 0.8 billion cubic metres, and Georgia received 0.4 billion cubic metres. In addition, TANAP was used to export more than 0.5 billion cubic metres to Turkey.

Gas output was 4.1 billion cubic metres in January 2022. The Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli set of fields yielded 1.2 billion cubic metres, whereas Shah Deniz yielded 2.2 billion cubic metres. During this time, SOCAR produced 0.7 billion cubic metres of gas.

Moreover 191 billion cubic metres of gas have been collected from "Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli" since its commissioning till 1 February 2022, and approximately 160 billion cubic metres from "Shah Deniz." During this time, Shah Deniz exported more than 110 billion cubic metres of gas.

Furthermore, in January 2022, Azerbaijan produced 2.9 million tonnes of oil, including condensate. Shah Deniz produced 0.4 million tonnes of oil, whereas Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli produced 1.8 million tonnes (condensate). SOCAR produced 0.7 million tonnes of oil, including condensate.

The total volume of oil shipped, including condensate, was 2.3 million tonnes. SOCAR contributes for 79.8 thousand tonnes of this consortium's 2.2 million tonnes.

Additionally, 583 million tonnes of oil, including condensate, have been extracted from Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and Shah Deniz since its commissioning till 1 February 2022. ACG produced almost 548 million tonnes of crude oil, while Shah Deniz produced 35 million tonnes of condensate.

In January 2022, Azerbaijan refined 583,000 tonnes of oil.

Azerbaijan becomes leading exporter of petroleum gases to Georgia

According to local media, Azerbaijan was the largest supplier of petroleum gases to Georgia in January 2022.

Azerbaijan sold $51.4 million worth of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons to Georgia during the reporting month, up 57.6% over the same month in 2021.

Exports also climbed by 8.6% from January 2020 to December 2021, and by 9.1% from January 2020 to December 2021.

Azerbaijan was followed by Russia ($12.5 million) and the United States ($4 million) as the top exporters of petroleum gases to Georgia.

Georgia's total imports of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons in January 2022 were $63.9 million, up 37.7% from January 2021 and 11.3% from January 2020.

Azerbaijan and Georgia work together in several economic industries. As part of a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation in 2021, Azerbaijan and Georgia inked multiple cooperation agreements.

Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey signed five memorandums and agreements on cooperation at the same time, as part of the trilateral economic conference in Baku in December 2021.

In 2021, the two nations' entire trade transaction was $763.6 million, with $661 million in exports and $102.6 million in imports.
