President Ilham Aliyev received in video format energy minister of Romania

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received Virgil-Daniel Popescu, Romania's Minister of Energy, and Ana Birchall, Romania's Special Envoy for Strategic and International Affairs, in a video format.

Virgil-Daniel Popescu, Romania's Minister of Energy, referred to President Klaus Iohannis' letter to President Ilham Aliyev on the 30th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic ties, as well as the President's invitation to visit Romania.

The head of state requested that the minister express his thanks to President Klaus Iohannis for the letter.

During the conversation, the parties agreed that Azerbaijan and Romania's relations are founded on strategic partnership principles, underscoring the relevance of the signed Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership in this respect.

They expressed optimism that Virgil-Daniel Popescu's visit to Azerbaijan would help the two nations expand their energy cooperation.

At the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of Azerbaijan's relationship with the European Union. They praised the effective expansion of bilateral ties, citing the signing of strategic cooperation papers between Azerbaijan and nine EU member states as an example.

On the same day, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Romanian Energy Minister Virgil-Daniel Popescu and Special Envoy for Strategic and International Affairs Ana Birchall, as well as the delegation, which comprised top Transgaz and Romgaz officials.

Discussions on the main areas of energy cooperation between the two nations took place during the conference. The strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Romania was mentioned as being vital in the growth of energy cooperation. At the 8th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, Romania's involvement and interest in the project were praised, and the possibilities for Romania's participation in the project were examined.

The Georgia-Romania Black Sea underwater cable project was also discussed at the conference. Romania has been asked to join the project's Working Group, which is under development. Minister Parviz Shahbazov noted the project's relevance in terms of boosting power export options between the area and the European market, as well as Azerbaijan's potential and aspirations for "green energy" export. According to Shahbazov, existing renewable energy projects and plans connected to the realization of offshore wind energy potential should position Azerbaijan as a key participant in the future export of electricity and hydrogen produced from "green energy" sources in collaboration with Europe.
