Presidents of Georgia and Ukraine talk on the phone

While Ukrainian forces are repelling Russian advances on Kyiv, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili spoke on the phone with her Ukrainian colleague Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

President Zourabichvili tweeted, "reiterated Georgia's entire sympathy with the people of Ukraine."

"President Zelenskyy is an excellent leader in these awful times for Ukraine and Europe," she said.

"Informed President of Georgia and Prime Minister of the Czech Republic (Petr Fiala) of the present situation," President Zelenskyy tweeted. "It was debated how concrete support might be provided."

The meeting took place a day after President Zelenskyy chastised the Georgian government for making provocative statements about Russian sanctions. A special parliamentary session on Ukraine was also denied by the ruling Georgian Dream party.

On the phone with the EU and French counterparts, Zalkaliani discusses Ukraine

On February 26, Georgia's Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, David Zalkaliani, spoke by phone with senior European diplomat Josep Borrell and French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian about Russia's armed attack on Ukraine.

During a session with Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the Georgian Foreign Ministry stated that the EU's strong and unshakable support for Georgia was reiterated.

"The sides emphasised the special attention that the European Union and its Member States devote to their partner – Georgia, particularly in light of the continued military aggression in Ukraine," according to the Foreign Ministry.

"It was noted that Georgia aligns itself with the political positions of the EU and international organizations about the situation in Ukraine," according to the ministry.

"The EU stands with Ukraine and its Eastern allies," Josep Borrell said on Twitter.

Foreign Minister Zalkaliani "highlighted the need of the international community's continuous and robust response to Russia's violation of the fundamental norms of international law" when discussing developments in Ukraine with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves le Drian.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry stated, "the sides observed with special concern the losses among the civilian population."

"The French Foreign Minister underlined his government's entire solidarity with Ukraine and Georgia, as well as their unwavering support for the two nations' sovereignty and territorial integrity," according to the same newspaper.
