The leader of the "Georgian Dream" called on conditions for cooperation with the opposition

Deputies of the ruling Georgian Dream party will support a bill to lower the entry barrier in parliamentary elections from 5% to 2% if the opposition shows a desire to reduce the degree of polarisation in society. This was stated during a briefing by the chairman of Georgian Dream Irakli Kobakhidze.

He noted that so far only statements about "destructive" plans have been heard from the opposition. In this case, there is no desire to reduce the degree of polarisation.

“We are going to see real steps, and in this case, we will have more motivation to support a lower barrier,” Kobakhidze said.

The leader of the ruling party added that this was not only about the largest opposition party in the country, the United National Movement.

Georgian Dream refuses to visit Ukraine

The ruling Georgian Dream party has no plans to send a delegation to Ukraine to show support for Kyiv. This was stated during a briefing by the chairman of the party Irakli Kobakhidze.

“We are watching the events. Depending on how they develop, we will make a specific decision. In accordance with the development of events, we will decide on any step, whether it be a visit or a statement,” Kobakhidze shared.

He added that the ruling party has already expressed support for Kyiv by adopting a resolution that speaks of the need for a peaceful settlement of the situation. The Dream leader also said that, if necessary, measures would be taken to ensure the safety of Georgian citizens in Ukraine.

It is worth noting that the MPs from the opposition parties refused to support the resolution of the Georgian Parliament on supporting Kyiv. They were not satisfied that Russia was not called an “aggressor” in the document.
