French Development Agency approved loan of EUR 30 million for Georgia

Georgia's Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Development Program will be supported by a EUR 30 million policy-based loan from the French Development Agency (AFD).

The initiative intends to assist Georgia in developing the governance and institutional capacity of its water supply and sanitation sector, according to a news statement issued by the AFD and given by the French Embassy in Tbilisi.

Aside from the financing, the French help will include technical assistance in the form of a EUR 500,000 grant from the Fund for Technical Expertise and Experience Transfers (FEXTE).

The AFD's contribution will go toward co-financing the second tranche of the Asian Development Bank's policy-based loan to Georgia, which was authorised in 2020.

Earlier, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved 131.2 million euros in loans to modernise Georgia's water supply and sanitation facilities, including a policy-based loan of 113.7 million euros and a project loan of 17.4 million euros.
