Deputies of the National Assembly (parliament) of Armenia from the opposition factions "Armenia" and "I have the honour" decided not to nominate an alternative candidate for the presidency of the republic. This was reported by the press service of the "Armenia" faction on Facebook.

“The current government, which has brought the country to the brink of collapse and split society, has decided to continue working in the same spirit, guided not by the state, but only by narrow command interests,” the statement said.

The authors of the appeal accused the authorities of splitting society. They noted that the president should unite society and be impartial, but the ruling party nominated a candidate from their ranks.

It is reported that the opposition factions of the parliament will not participate in the presidential elections, as they do not want to be involved in their "legitimation" in this way.

Recall that the previous President of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, resigned on February 1. Elections for a new president are due in March. He will be elected by members of the National Assembly. The ruling Civil Contract party supported the nomination of the current Minister of High-Tech Industry Vahagn Khachaturian as a presidential candidate.
