Between Iran and Azerbaijan, the Aslanduz border crossing will be established. According to the Iranian Ardabil Governor Hadi Ameli, the opening of the border checkpoint is critical for the two nations' commercial and border links. The new border gate in the province's north, according to Hadi Ameli, would improve trade between Iran and Azerbaijan, particularly freight.
"As we seek to extend provincial highways to assist commerce and products transportation," Hadi Ameli explained, “the development of the Parsabad-Ardabil city route would help both nations to develop trade through access to important cities."
Azerbaijan and Iran now have three border checkpoints, one of which is at Nakhchivan.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the land border checkpoints between Iran and Azerbaijan are currently closed, with only cargo transportation allowed.
The new Aslanduz border checkpoint will allow Iran to cross the territories regained by Azerbaijan during the Second Karabakh War.
Earlier, according to the memorandum signed between the Azerbaijani and Iranian governments, financial, border, customs, and environmental issues related to the construction of a road bridge and pedestrian crossing over the Astarachay River (322 km south of Baku) were discussed. The statement came from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
To discuss the issues, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov met with the Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Kheyrullah Khademi in Astara, Iran.
During the visit, the deputy ministers inspected the land where the bridge will be built and the Astara (Iran) Terminal Complex. They held talks on increasing the carrying capacity of this complex. During the talks, they agreed to continue work to accelerate the implementation of joint projects.
