Armenia ready for normalisation with Turkey

The Armenian Security Council secretary, Armen Grigoryan, has said that Yerevan is discussing with Russia ways of normalising relations between Armenia and Turkey.

"We have repeatedly said that we are ready to start discussing the normalisation of relations with Turkey… We are discussing with our Russian partners how we can move forward in this process," Grigoryan told reporters.

"I think it will be effective to start this work since we and the Turkish side already said that there are positive signals and we can initiate the normalisation of relations," he added.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on 28 October that Turkey was consulting with Azerbaijan on the normalisation of ties with Armenia and that positive signs had come from Armenia.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier that a "sincere will" from Armenia towards Azerbaijan would help smooth Yerevan's relations with Ankara.

"Armenia should demonstrate a sincere will towards resolving problems with Azerbaijan. There will not be any obstacles left before the normalisation of relations between Turkey and Armenia, if (Yerevan) displays a sincere will with Azerbaijan," Erdogan said during his 26 October visit to Azerbaijan's Fuzuli District.
