Erdogan:

Erdogan: "The day will come when we will be able to leave Zangazur and go to Istanbul"

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's official visit to Azerbaijan ended on October 26.

In a statement during his one-day visit to Azerbaijan, the Turkish President said that "today the situation in the region is more favourable than ever for lasting peace."

"For this, steps must be taken in the region in accordance with the new realities," Erdogan added.

He stated that "land and railways passing through this region will not only serve Azerbaijan and Turkey."

"We are in favour of lasting peace and comprehensive normalisation in the region. The land and railway lines passing through this region will create economic and trade opportunities not only for Azerbaijan and Turkey but for all countries in the region. One day we will be able to leave Zangazur and go to Istanbul. The region's position as a transit and logistics centre will be strengthened," he said.

"All of Azerbaijan's neighbours, including Iran, Georgia, and Armenia, will be able to use it," Erdogan claimed.

"These projects are not divisive, but unifying," Erdogan said.

The Turkish President stressed the "importance of delimitation and mutual recognition of borders."

"This understanding is the basis of good neighbourliness. There is a need for Armenia's sincere will in relations with Azerbaijan on these issues. If Armenia shows goodwill towards Azerbaijan, it will not hinder the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Turkey," Erdogan said. The Shusha Declaration, signed in June, "raised Azerbaijani-Turkish relations to the level of an alliance."

"We are together. Our unity is unshakable and eternal," he said.

According to Aliyev, "Azerbaijan's cooperation and brotherhood with Turkey is an important factor not only for the region but also for the world."

"While here, we cannot talk about the Zangazur corridor. Zangilan is located in East Zangazur. The Zangazur corridor will connect the whole Turkic world. Azerbaijan and Turkey are taking practical steps to implement the Zangazur corridor, and I am confident that these steps will yield results in the near future," Aliyev said.

The Presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan laid the foundation of the Horadiz-Jabrail-Zangilan-Agband highway. Official sources presented this road as the Zangazur “corridor.”

The main purpose of Mr. Erdogan's visit was to attend the opening ceremony of Fizuli International Airport.
