Armenian opposition plans anti-government rallies in early

Armenia's main opposition alliance has announced plans to stage rallies in Yerevan in early November to prevent what it described as new concessions to Azerbaijan planned by the Armenian government.

Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a deputy parliament speaker and member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation - Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD), notified the Yerevan city administration about plans to stage rallies on 9-10 November.

The ARFD is a member of the opposition Armenia alliance led by former President Robert Kocharyan.

Saghatelyan said in a Facebook post that their aim was "to prevent new concessions at any cost." He previously highlighted that a new "capitulation" agreement would be signed by the incumbent government.

"We believe that what is happening and what is being presented as [the] unblocking of communications and opening of a new era of peace in the region, is all fake, and these processes are detached from reality, and all this will happen at the expense of the vital interests of Armenia. This will be a capitulation agreement, and new concessions will be made," Saghatelyan stated on 22 October.

Saghatelyan added that the opposition's main objective was "to save Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh". "We believe that national resistance must be formed to prevent the Turkification of Armenia and prevent the government from leading the country to new capitulation," he said.

Moreover, he highlighted that the creation of the "Zangazur corridor," a transport link between mainland Azerbaijan and its exclave of Nakhchivan via Armenia's Syunik Region, would lead to devastating consequences for Armenia.

There were reports that the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders would meet in Moscow in early November to sign two agreements – one on Armenian-Azerbaijani border demarcation and the other on the opening of transport links between the two countries. Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesman Vahan Unanyan said that no meeting was planned between the Armenian prime minister and the Azerbaijani president.
