Azerbaijani government tightens measures in 10 regions as a response to Covid-19

On 6 November, the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers made changes to the special quarantine regime in Sheki, Lankaran, Gakh, Zagatala, Bilasuvar, Jalilabad, Masalli, Ismayilli, Guba, Khachmaz regions due to the rise of Covid-19 cases in the country.

The measures included the  complete suspension of public transport in all of the 10 regions. The activities of cafes and restaurants in the regions were also suspended. The entry and exit to the regions except for the movement of operational and special purpose vehicles, as well as trucks, was also suspended.

In addition, the country’s Ministry of Economy would make appropriate payments on the salaries of employees in these cities and regions and provide one-time financial support to individual (micro) entrepreneurs. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population was also instructed to pay a lump sum in the amount of the subsistence minimum (190 manat) to unemployed and informally employed low-income people who lost their income due to the special quarantine regime.

Meanwhile, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on a „Special Session of the General Assembly in response to the Covid-19 pandemic“ which was proposed by Azerbaijan during ist Chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). In accordance with the resolution it was decided to convene a special session of the UN General Assembly on December 3-4 of this year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, at the level of Heads of State and Government. 

In the past 24 hours, Azerbaijan reported 1, 465 new Covid-19 cases and 17 deaths, bringing the total tally to 62, 338 cases and 811 reported deaths.
