On 19 February, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian signed two decrees to relieve head of Military Police of Artur Baghdasaryan and the head a department supervising moral and psychological support in the armed forces Aleksan Aleksanyan of their duties following the increased number of the non-combat deaths in the Armenian military, reported arka.am.
The decrees were signed just hours after they were submitted by the Armenian government to the President. Baghdasaryan held this post since 25 May 2017, while Aleksanyan since November 2019.
On 17 February, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan convened a government meeting prompted by a series of deaths in the country's Armed Forces and announced that staff changes would be made. Since the beginning of January, 13 Armenian soldiers have died in non-combat conditions, causing a wide public outcry (Caucasus Watch reported).
