One Azerbaijani soldier dead and an Armenian wounded in Nagorno-Karabakh

On 22 September, at about 4:15pm, in the twilight of a new meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Elmar Mammadyarov respectivly, another clash between the Azerbaijani and the Armenian military forces occurred with casualties on both sides.

According to the Armenian side, the Azerbaijani side attempted to infiltrate an Armenian combat position located on the southeastern sector of the line of contact between the two sides. “As a result of the competent actions by the DA position-holding personnel, the adversary was driven back to its starting positions, leaving one dead body at the neutral zone. The Defense Army did not have any losses. Details of the incident are being clarified,” read the Facebook post Artsrun Hovhannisyan, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia. Although the Armenian side did not receive any casualties, the serviceman Hayk Khachatryan was wounded in unclear circumstances and is in critical condition. The press office of the de facto Karabakh Defense Ministry said that preliminary reports indicated that Hayk Khachatryan, 18, was wounded as a result of improper treatment of weapons.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense refuted the information of the Armenian side. “The reports of the Armenian side that the Azerbaijani Army has undertaken a provocation on the front line is a lie,” the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry said. It reported that the fallen Azerbaijani soldier was Ramin Abdulrahmanov, a serviceman of a front-line military unit, who got lost and was killed on the territory opposite enemy positions. Azerbaijan appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross to safely evacuate the body of the dead serviceman.
